A. 안녕하세요. 저는 한양대학교 에너지공학과에서 박사 과정을 밟고 있는 장학생 이성규입니다. [한양 CMK]는 한양대학교에 재학 중인 장학생들이 보다 편안하게 만나 이야기할 수 있는 공간을 만들고자 시작되었습니다. 현대차 정몽구 재단에서 다양한 네트워킹 프로그램을 제공해주지만, 같은 학교 장학생들끼리 더 밀도 있게 교류하며 친해지면 좋겠다고 생각했습니다. 그 결과, 매우 의미 있고 잘 운영된 모임이 되었다고 느끼고 있으며, 내년에도 기회가 된다면 같은 형태의 모임을 다시 운영하고 싶습니다.
Hello, my name is Seong-gyu Lee, and I am a scholarship student currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Energy Engineering at Hanyang University. [The Hanyang CMK] gathering was created to provide a comfortable space where scholarship students at Hanyang University could meet and talk more freely. While the foundation operates various networking programs, I felt it would be valuable to have a gathering that allows students from the same university to connect more closely.
As a result, I believe the meeting was meaningful and well-organized, and if given the opportunity, I would like to host a similar gathering again next year.
Q. 모임 자랑을 해주세요.
A. 우리 모임의 가장 큰 목적은 장학생 간 네트워킹입니다. 총 15명의 구성원 중 한국 장학생은 2명이고, 나머지는 모두 글로벌 장학생들로 이루어져 있습니다. 국적, 전공, 배경이 매우 다양하다는 점이 가장 큰 특징입니다. 첫 모임에서는 다소 어색함도 있었습니다. 인원이 많아 예약이 가능한 대형 피자집에서 만났지만, 소음 때문에 서로의 목소리가 잘 들리지 않아 자리를 옮겨 다니며 인사를 나눴던 기억이 납니다.
이후 모임에서는 각자의 전공과 진로, 문화적 배경에 대해 이야기하고, 고민을 나누거나 주변 맛집 정보와 K-pop 같은 가벼운 주제로도 즐겁게 대화를 이어가고 있습니다.
The main purpose of our group is networking among scholarship students. There are 15 members in total, with only two Korean students and the rest being global scholarship students. What makes the group unique is the wide diversity in nationalities, academic fields, and backgrounds.
The first meeting felt somewhat awkward. Because of the large group size, we met at a big pizza restaurant, but the noise made it difficult to hear one another, so we ended up moving around and greeting people individually.
In later meetings, we talked about our majors, career paths, and cultural backgrounds, shared our concerns, and enjoyed light conversations about nearby restaurants and K-pop.
Q. 모임을 하면서 인상 깊었던 순간이 있었나요?
A. 11월에 열렸던 모임이 특히 기억에 남습니다. 연말을 맞아 많은 인원이 함께할 수 있는 장소를 찾다가 학교 근처의 파티룸을 대여해 모임을 진행했습니다. 엽떡, 치킨, 피자, 요아정 등 다양한 음식을 함께 나눠 먹으며 자연스럽게 분위기가 풀렸고, 배경음악으로 K-pop을 틀어두었습니다.
‘강남스타일’이 나오자 글로벌 장학생들이 저와 또 다른 한국 장학생을 무대로 끌어내려 했는데, 둘 다 너무 부끄러워 제대로 나서지 못했던 기억이 납니다. 대신 한 장학생이 먼저 일어나 춤을 추며 분위기를 이끌었고, 이후에는 여러 장학생들이 함께 노래하고 춤추는 즐거운 시간이 이어졌습니다.
나이와 국적이 다른 사람들이 한 공간에서 어울리며 웃고 즐기는 모습이 인상적이었고, 일상에서는 쉽게 경험하기 어려운 특별한 순간이었습니다.
The meeting held in November was especially memorable. As it was the end of the year, we rented a party room near the campus to accommodate everyone.
We shared a variety of foods such as tteokbokki, chicken, pizza, and desserts, with K-pop playing in the background. When “Gangnam Style” came on, the global scholarship students tried to pull me and another Korean student onto the dance floor, but we were both too shy to dance. Instead, one student stood up and started dancing first, which gradually warmed up the atmosphere.
Soon, several students were singing and dancing together, while a few of us hid in the back to avoid being dragged out. Watching people of different ages and nationalities enjoy the moment together created a truly special and joyful memory that would be hard to experience elsewhere.
Q. 모임을 CMK 한양대학교 학생들에게 추천한다면요?
A. 이 모임은 새로운 문화와 음식, 다양한 언어를 경험해보고 싶은 장학생들에게 특히 추천하고 싶어요. 공식적인 소통 언어는 영어이지만, 영어가 익숙하지 않더라도 서로 배려하며 편안한 분위기 속에서 소통이 이루어집니다.
또한 연령, 전공, 국적이 다양한 장학생들이 함께 모여 어떤 고민이든 자유롭게 이야기하고 함께 생각해볼 수 있는 따뜻한 모임이라고 생각합니다. 서로 다른 배경을 가진 사람들이 만나 자연스럽게 연결되고, 그 안에서 위로와 자극을 동시에 얻을 수 있는 자리입니다.
I would especially recommend this gathering to scholarship students who want to experience new cultures, foods, and languages. Although English is the main language of communication, everyone is considerate and makes an effort to communicate in a comfortable and inclusive atmosphere.
It is a warm community where scholarship students of different ages, majors, and nationalities come together, allowing them to openly share concerns and reflect on them together. Through these connections, participants can find both comfort and inspiration from one another.
